How to Grow Sprouts at Home

Learning How to Grow Sprouts at Home is super easy. They basically grow themselves, since they take such minimal effort. And they are so much cheaper to grow at home than to buy sprouts at the store!

When I was growing up my dad liked alfalfa sprouts on his sandwiches instead of lettuce and I always added some to my salads from the salad bar to be just like him.

As I became more health conscious, I became aware of the high concentration of nutrition of sprouts (instead of just mimicking what my dad was eating)

What’s really interesting is that once I started growing sprouts to snack on, my husband realized that LOVES them, too!

We both just eat them by the hand full right out of the sprouter , with radish sprouts being Ray’s favorite since they are a little spicy.

How to Grow Sprouts

Learning How to Grow Sprouts at Home is super easy. They basically grow themselves, since they take such minimal effort. And they are so much cheaper to grow at home than to buy sprouts at the store!

There’s only 3 supplies you need to get started sprouting..

  1. Sprouting Seeds – I suggest starting out with THIS combination pack to try a wide variety of sprouts to see which you prefer.
  2. Something to sprout them in – I’ve had THIS stackable sprouting set for over 10 years, it is durable and works great.
  3. Water – plain tap water will work, but of course filtered is best.

Sprinkle roughly 1/2 tablespoon of sprouting seeds in the tray of your sprouter (you can fill every tray at all at once or fill a tray each day for a more spread out harvest.
Stack all the trays and pour 2 cups of water in the top tray, the water will trickle down through each tray and fill the reservoir in the bottom. Let your sprouter sit in a low to moderately lit area, not in direct sun light. Ours sit on the right side of our kitchen window next to the sink, not in direct sun.

Once a day, dump out the water from the bottom reservoir and put another 2 cups of water in the top tray. Repeat emptying and pouring every day until your sprouts are ready in about 4 days (you will know they are ready when they are as tall as the tray!)

You can store them in the fridge for about 4-5 days, we like to eat them fresh from the tray as a snack, in our green juice or in a salad. As you empty one tray, refill it with more seeds for a continuous supply of sprouts!

So, now your all excited to start sprouting, RIGHT? It’s so simple and cheap there’s no excuse to not do it. And you can grow sprouts year-round in any kitchen, anywhere! Now, get your stuff ordered and get to sprouting and keep me updated! and of course I’m always here to answer any questions you have!!

Happy Sprouting!
