Homemade Tootsie Rolls made with Coconut Sugar

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

I found a great new website tonight, The Nerdy Farm Wife and instantly fell in love with her idea for homemade Honey Tootsie Rolls! I just couldn’t wait to make my own version using my favorite sweetener, Coconut Sugar! (even though I love honey, I’m kind-of obsessed with coconut sugar and love experimenting with it in recipes!)

Ingredients

  • 1 c coconut sugar
  • 1/4 c Coconut Oil (unrefined)
  • 1/8 c Water
  • 2 T cocoa powder
  • 2 pinches Sea Salt

Instructions

  • Combine everything in a small sauce pan and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Using a candy thermometer, continue simmering/stirring to 250 degrees F. Pour into a parchment paper lined small square/rectangle container and allow to cool. While your tootsie rolls are firm yet flexible, use Kitchen Shears to cut into pieces (long sticks or individual bite squares) and wrap individually in wax or parchment paper. Enjoy!!
