How What You Eat Affects How You Think: Nutrition and Cognitive Performance

This combination has been studied in controlled trials, though dose, tolerance, and individual response still matter.

Meal timing matters as much as meal content

When you eat affects cognition almost as much as what you eat. A heavy lunch can trigger a postprandial dip in alertness that most people fight with another coffee rather than preventing with a lighter meal.

My own approach is simple. A light, protein-forward lunch around noon. Nothing heavy until evening. For me, a large meal at 1pm often costs the best part of the afternoon.
