Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce Cubes
Perhaps you are thinking, WHY would anyone need Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce Cubes? Well I will tell you why, if you’ve ever tasted Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce then you understand how fabulous they are HOWEVER I rarely have a use for the entire can. Most often I only need 1 or 2 tablespoons since they are very spicy.
My most favorite way to use these Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce Cubes is in my AMAZING Southwestern Ranch Dressing that’s featured in my new ebook Salads, Without Grain (coming soon!). This dressing is BEYOND delicious and you only need 1 of these cute little cubes for each batch of dressing for my Southwestern Shrimp Salad.

Making Single Serving Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce Cubes is super easy and you’ll surely find other ways to use this same technique to save pantry staples that you tend to waste a lot of – like when you open a can of tomato paste but don’t need it all, make it into frozen cubes to use later!
Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce comes in a couple different sized cans, since I use them frequently I purchase the larger 11.5 ounce can of Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce (which yields about 35 – 1 tablespoon cubes) and well, to be honest, that’s the only size I could find this morning at our local grocery store 🙂 You can also purchase them online HERE if you can’t find any locally. Regardless they are generally an inexpensive addition to your pantry.
When you open the can, you’ll see lots of beautiful red sauce with some whole peppers… Like I told my mom recently, these are very spicy so if you want the flavor with less spice just use the adobo sauce and discard the peppers.
I take the entire contents of the can (because we really like spicy foods!) and blend them up using my immersion blender – but a food processor or blender will work great too.
I’ve found that it’s EASIEST and least messy way to fill the cube trays is to make a little squeeze baggie of the pureed peppers/sauce — I used a disposable pastry bag today but you can even just fill a regular plastic baggie. And always it’s easier to fill them when you put the bag inside a tall glass and fold the top over the sides.
The just cut off the tip of the bag (you want just a little hole, you can always make it bigger later if you need to, but if it’s too big the puree just comes SCREAMING out and will make a mess)
Carefully fill each cube using your puree filled bag.
After you’ve used up all of your puree, freeze your cubes. I get about 34 cubes from 1-10.5 ounce can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce.
Your cubes will need overnight to completely freeze through then just POP them out! I store mine in a plastic zip top baggie and I can easily take just 1 or 2 out at a time, each is roughly 1 tablespoon.

That’s one of those things I should have thought about doing a LONG time ago because wasting a large part of a can is always in the back of my mind whenever I want to make a recipe that calls for that ingredient.
