Easy Frozen Mango Margarita
My Easy Frozen Mango Margaritas are delicious whether paired with your favorite Mexican Meal or simply enjoyed as a cool cocktail treat on a hot summer day!
Necessity is the mother of invention, or so they say. But it’s totally applicable in this situation.
Here’s the thing, it’s crisis mode at our house. Our freezers are FULL, yet we committed to another 1/2 grass fed/finshed beef from our farmer-butcher friends. T-minus 10 days and I need to get my freezer stash of goodies used up instead of shopping.
Like the 42 pounds of frozen fruit that I was gifted for a freelance project I’m working on.
I’m not sure if you realize how much space 42 pounds of frozen fruit takes up in a freezer…. in our medium size free standing freezer it’s an entire shelf. A shelf that I NEED to put beef on in 10 days.
So, let’s just say that the rest of the bottle of tequila in the liquor cabinet got used up right along with the frozen mangos at 11 am on a Wednesday. #LivingMyBestLife #SorryNotSorry
It was time for a mango margarita recipe, with so many other delicious mango recipes here at HSITK like my Mango Black Bean Salsa, Easy Frozen Mango Margarita, Fermented Mango Habanero Hot Sauce, Homemade Mango Syrup, Spicy Mango Sauce and even Mango Iced Tea!
Did I mention that these are Easy Mango Margaritas??
How Do You Make a Frozen Mango Margarita?
Making a frozen mango margarita is so easy! The key is using Frozen Mango, it creates that creamy sorbet style consistency that you’ll often find at a restaurant or bar. And you can easily find pre-cut & frozen mango in the freezer section of most grocery stores, those mangos are picked the the peak of the season and flash frozen retaining the most flavor without so much work for you!
And THIS brand conveniently packs theirs in 8 ounce servings, which takes the guess work out of measuring! (This post is not sponsored or affiliated in any way with the brand or store I linked to, just sharing because I honestly like the pre-portioned packs that I had left over from a previous project)
Simply blend together frozen mango, lime juice, ice, tequila and triple sec — if it’s too thick don’t worry!!! It will melt into the perfect consistently! However if it’s too thick to get out of your blender, add a little water OR mango sparkling water for some fizz!
What is the Best Blender for Making Margaritas?
Speaking of blenders, the key to the perfectly blended frozen margarita is the BLENDER. Not just any blender will do! You need a high powered blender that will create a silk smooth puree.
When it comes to blenders I’ve tried all the popular brands but none come close to performing better than my Vitamix.
My Vitamix blender has been a staple in my kitchen appliance arsenal for nearly 10 years. It was one the of the first professional grade appliances I upgraded to….. way back before I became a “famous blogger” and wrote cookbooks 😛
So, before you ask, YES. Splurging on a high quality blender is 100% WORTH the investment. I’ve tried THIS Ninja and THIS Blendtec blender(s) and they worked OK but were no where near as powerful as my old Vitamix for completely smooth blending. And it’s not only superior for margaritas, but also when it comes to making savory meals like my velvety smooth roasted tomato soup!!!
How to Rim a Margarita Glass?
One the best ways to elevate any cocktail at home, but especially a margarita is to rim the glass with a complimentary salt and/or sugar mixture.
Simply rub a lime wedge around the edge of your margarita glass, this moistens the glass so that the seasoning will stick.
Then dip your (still wet) edge of the glass into the seasoning. No need to invest in a special dish, any dish that the top of your glass will sit flat on will work great!
How to make a Healthy Margarita?
To make a margarita healthier, we’re going to ditch the agave and instead just stick to embracing the sweetness of the fresh mango! You can also reduce (or even completely omit) the alcohol, too if that’s your thing.
And if you are looking to reduce the carbs (like me) I make mine into a Skinny Sparkling Mango Margarita. I fill my glass 1/2 way with the recipe as-is then top my glass with THIS mango sparkling water! It’s lighter, less carbs and helps to make it so much healthier!
