What is a Crostini Sandwich Bite?
One food group that I don’t get excited about is a sandwich. I know that might sound really odd but they have never been my thing. Now my husband, Ray, that’s a totally different situation. He’s sandwich obsessed.
Don’t get me wrong, I love all the components of a sandwich I’m just not into the eating a sandwich itself. You don’t have to tell me, I know that makes no sense at all.
A crostini sandwich bite is my version of an elevated, deconstructed sandwich; crispy crostini topped with all your favorite sandwich ingredients served open face, appetizer style. It’s the best of both worlds, making us both happy! It is fancy and portable!
My crostini bites are a 2-bite open faced gourmet sandwich sort of thing. Full of flavor with a fun appetizer twist, making them fancy enough to serve for an appetizer for a celebration or event and easy enjoy to serve up for a snack!
How to make a Crostini Sandwich Bite
The first step to making a grilled crostini sandwich bite is, without a doubt, heading to your local Food Lion to pick up all the ingredients that you’ll need, including Bistro Favorites™ 100% Natural Deli meat. You can find it in the refrigerated packaged meat section, near the bacon and sausages.
You can also shop Food Lion online and pick up your order, to save time!
I suggest 3 different Bistro Favorites™: Slow Roasted Beef, Black Forest Uncured Ham and Rotisserie Seasoned Turkey.
The reason I’m saying SUGGEST is because I actually purchased ALL their deli meats and every single one was exceptional and would work great on a crostini sandwich! But I had to pick 3 so those are my ‘suggestions’
You’ll also need a loaf of French bread, fresh greens (arugula, spinach and baby lettuce), butter and cheese for the basic crostini sandwiches.
But we aren’t going to be basic, no way! Bistro Favorites is made with the foodie adventurer in mind!
We are going to kick up our crostini appetizer bites with 3 delicious homemade sauces and pickled red onions to really elevate a basic sandwich theme into something drool worthy.
What sauces should you serve on Crostini Sandwich Bites?
We are going to make 3 incredibly easy and mouth watering delicious sauces to use on your crostini sandwich bites. These sauces also make delicious salad dressings and dips for chips and fries too.
Chipotle Lime, Horseradish and Honey Mustard sauces are the perfect compliment to the Bistro Favorites™!
Here’s what you’ll need to make the Crostini Sauces:
- Mayonnaise
- Chipotles in Adobo
- 1-Lemon
- 1-Lime
- Horseradish
- Dijon Mustard
- Honey
You can find the recipes for the sauces in the recipe card at the end of this post. And don’t forget to whip up a batch of my Homemade Pickled Red Onions, too!
Both can be made up to 3 days in advance.
Now that you have your sauces made and onions pickling, let’s make the grilled crostini!
How to make Grilled Crostini
Grilling crostini, instead of a basic toast in the oven, gives your sandwiches a fun flare. We’ll give each slice of French bread a light brush of melted butter to help make the crostini flavorful and crispy but not so hard they hurt your mouth when you bite in!
I think it’s easier to use a grill pan indoors on the stove, you can control the heat/temperature a little easier than an outside grill. However grilling them in a grill or even over a campfire would work great too.
How to Serve Grilled Crostini Sandwich Bites
Depending on the occasion and who you are serving, you have a choice, you can either make up a bunch of individual crostini bites to serve…
Or you can arrange all the delicious ingredients on a beautiful tray and let everyone make their own. I like to call it a Crostini Sandwich Charcuterie Board!
No matter which you choose, the finished crostini sandwich bites will be beautiful and delicious!
How to Assemble Grilled Crostini Sandwich Bites
I admit that when I first put these crostini appetizers together I was super stoked about the flavor combinations that I came up with. Then as I made them up and sampled them I realized that they all work together in various combinations!
