Homemade Spray Hair Gel
I’m always searching for nontoxic hair and body products. Often the super fabulous, all natural product lines are expensive, but I’m on a budget… I love experimenting to come up with amazing products you can make in your own kitchen, with all natural, healthy stuff!!
My hair is naturally wavy… I don’t use any “product” on my hair and most often it’s just allowed to air dry. I missed a hair gel that would help to define my waves and keep the frizzies away. This recipe is really easy and I love how it defines my waves (even boosts my waves to curls!) My hubby even uses it on his short hair to give him light styling control!!
Ingredients
- 1.25 cups Water, filtered warmed
- 2 teaspoons Gelatin
- 1/4 cup 100% Aloe Vera Gel
- 10 drops essential oil optional
- 12 ounce Spray Bottle
Instructions
- Whisk together warm water with gelatin until smooth.
- Add Aloe vera gel and essential oil, whisk to combine
- Pour (using a funnel) into your spray bottle.
- Shake well before spraying on to your hair (can be used on wet or dry hair)
- If it becomes too thick for your sprayer add water and shake until it will spray.
Is it the gel in the aloe vera or gel made with aloe vera?
Aloe Vera is a gel naturally
So easy and so far controlling the frizzies!
Is the aloe necessary?
yes
Would it be okay to simply mix the Aloe gel with water, and not use the gelatin at all? If so, in what proportion would I mix it? Thank you.
The gelatin is necessary.
Does this need to be refrigerated? How long does this last?
It does not need to be refrigerated and will last up to a month.
You’re so awesome! I do not suppose I’ve read through a single thing like this before.
So nice to find somebody with genuine thoughts on this topic.
Seriously.. thanks for starting this up. This web site is something that is needed on the web, someone with some originality!
Have you tried your spray gel on your skin? Seems like it could be good for the skin.
No I haven’t. I do have a after sun spray that’s similar that we use after hot days to cool down our skin.
Can you use aloe vera juice instead of gel? Does it make a difference?
I haven’t tried it. Let me know if you do 🙂
I was just wondering if I could use orange extract instead of essential oil?
Extracts, are essential oils dissolved in ethyl alcohol, glycerol or propylene glycol and may also contain water, a sweetening agent or a food color. – I wouldn’t recommend using them in my spray gel sorry.
Hi Hayley,
I’m really excited about the homemade spray gel. However, is there a way that I can keep it from congealing between use? I had made it a head of time and when I went to use it it had gelated. I warmed it in the microwave and it was fine. Is this what I will need to do to use it as a spray? Thanks.
Just add more water 🙂
