Since we don’t have children, it probably seems kind-of strange that I’m posting about how to pack a kid-approved healthy lunch, right? Well, I’m not going to tell you how to feed your kids, I can admit that it’s not my area of expertise… however I did ask an expert for help.
I figured the best person to talk to about packing a kid-approved, healthy lunch is a kid.
Not just any kid, but pretty much the coolest kid I know.
His name is Aengus. His mom and I are friends (and family too – like 2nd or 3rd cousins by marriage) Aengus was really excited to come over and show me how to pack a healthy lunch that’s kid-approved. Not only is he totally adorable, but he’s also proof that kids will eat healthy foods!
Aengus’ family eats healthy so he learned from a very young age to eat healthy too. He actually eats healthier any other kid I’ve ever met, and for that matter, he eats healthier than most of the adults I know too! Now don’t get me wrong, he’s a kid and likes treats too, but they aren’t a big deal since he eats so healthy most of the time.
Aengus got some amazing healthy lunch swag from my friends at Mighty Nest for helping me out on this project. (the very same amazing healthy-lunch swag we’re giving away to one lucky reader, make sure you enter to win at the end of this post!!)
Mighty Nest has this amazing “Create Your Own Lunch Kit” on their website, where they help you choose the perfect healthy lunch supplies, matching eco friendly lunch boxes and food containers the are guaranteed to fit together!
Mighty Nest, while equipping your kids for healthy lunch also supports your school. With your purchase of better goods for lunch and home, MightyNest donates 15% to your local school. A typical lunch gear order donates more than $10 to the supporter’s school. Mighty Nest‘s goal is to raise $1,000,000 for schools this school year.
Let’s all commit to equipping your kids for a healthy lunch this school year!
Getting your kids involved in planning/packing their lunches is the easiest way to pack a healthy lunch your kids will be excited to eat. Even more-so, if they have an amazing lunch box and super cool containers that they can’t wait to use for school!
I put together a large assortment of healthy foods for Aengus to choose from to teach me what works & what doesn’t for his lunch. Not all kids are going to like the same foods, but by getting them involved you’ll save lots of arguments and wasted food!
Anegus went with nitrate-free ham & turkey roll ups, sugar snap peas, cucumber, tomatoes and raw cheddar cheese cubes in his LunchBots Quad Stainless Steel Food Container and with iced coconut water in his Foogo Leak-Proof Straw Bottle
And in his Foogo Vacuum Insulated Leak-Proof Food Jar, he put together raw milk yogurt, fresh berries, chopped nuts and a drizzle of honey (we added the sprig of mint to make it look pretty, everyone wants to eat food that looks good!)
It’s pretty obvious by that big smile that Aengus is happy with his lunch. He added a peach and plantain chips packed in compostable sandwich baggie which made a totally awesome lunch, don’t you think??
To kick off the back-to-school season Mighty Nest is launching the “Let’s Do Lunch” campaign to inspire equipping our kids for a year of love-packed lunches. They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day…but maybe it’s lunch. In the middle of a long, action-packed school day, kids need a moment to refuel with a healthful, love-packed meal. Think of it as the kids power lunch.
Equipping your kids for lunch can be anything from packing a healthy meal to teaching them skills to participate in the process.
As always Mighty Nest pledges to give 15% of every purchase back to your school. We’ve carefully curated the best selection of reusable lunch gear and water bottles that all meet our rigorous criteria for safety and practicality. So shopping at Mighty Nest for back to school literally gives back to your school.
