After 15 years of making my own catalina dressing at home and then adapting it to be the BEST Keto Catalina Dressing Recipe, I can tell you for certain that ingredients that DO NOT belong in a catalina dressing are paprika, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, herbs (dill), vegetables, mayo, sour cream, etc. When we create a homemade or keto version of a recipe we MUST start by working from the original product, none of those ingredients are in the original version. The only modification you might make is a pinch of black pepper..
How to Serve Keto Catalina Dressing
I love a heavy drizzle of keto catalina dressing on a really cold tossed salad; iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese & sliced cucumbers – fill up a bowl and toss well!
But we can’t forget the iconic Taco Salad with Doritos and Catalina Dressing – YES in MY recipe I completely outline how to make it healthier including Keto friendly swaps like this keto catalina dressing!
And of course, you can use my homemade Keto Catalina Dressing Recipe in place of ANY recipe calling for Catalina Dressing to reduce the carbs and sugar.
Keto Catalina Dresing FAQs
Can I use Olive Oil instead of Avocado Oil?
In general, I choose to use neutral flavor oils in my homemade salad dressings and olive oil is not neutral flavored. It will impart that classic olive oil flavor into the dressing. If that’s ok with you then you can absolutely use olive oil instead of avocado oil in your keto catalina dressing.
Can I use onion powder instead of raw onion?
Yes, you can use onion powder in your keto catalina dressing instead of raw onion, if desired. I would suggest 1 teaspoon of onion powder.
Is Keto Catalina Dressing the Same as Keto French Dressing?
Catalina and French dressings are very similar with only slight differences. Generally speaking the most noticeable difference is the color, with French being more of a muted orange where as catalina is a bright red.
Can I use Red Wine Vinegar instead of Apple Cider Vinegar?
When it comes to the acid part of a recipe, in most cases you can interchange most vinegars (except balsamic since it’s so vastly differently flavored) as well as lemon juice. They all have slight variances in flavor that can effect the end result, I feel ACV is best but feel free to experiment!
Can I use Stevia to Sweeten my Keto Catalina Dressing?
I tend to avoid using stevia in my keto and sugar-free recipes. I don’t enjoy it’s flavor personally and many readers agree. If stevia is your fav then by all means try it out in your keto catalina dressing in place of the monk fruit sweetener. I suggest starting with a very small amount and adjust to taste, to your preferred level of sweetness.
How long will Keto Catalina Dressing Keep?
When stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator, it will keep roughly 1 week.
