Campfire Ranch Popcorn
I didn’t grow up outdoorsy; my husband is the one who got me out and loving nature. It started with picking wild black raspberries and foraging for mushrooms. Nearly 20 years later, I spend all winter looking forward to getting back outside and counting down until we can get back to our Camp Serendipity.
We spend several summer weekends at the most amazing off-grid campsite on our friends’ farm. We frolic in the fresh mountain creek and enjoy cooking on the campfire. (Look for a tour of Our Camp Serendipity coming soon!)
It takes HOURS to set up our tent and camp kitchen and organizing everything perfectly. Then after just a couple nights, we spend even longer packing everything back away until next time. But it’s all worth it.
I don’t just love camping, I also passionately LOVE the whole camp prep process — especially planning our menu and shopping for groceries and supplies.
One of my favorite places to stock up on camping supplies is definitely Sam’s Club. I love saving money by purchasing our favorite items in bulk sizes, and they have some really fun foods to try out!
This year we upgraded our campfire cooking to include an awesome over-the-fire grill so that we could leave our camp stove at home and instead cook over open flame… AND I got a new popcorn maker for campfire popcorn!
Do you love popcorn?? I seriously do. It’s always been one of my favorite snack foods and I’m so excited to enjoy it for our Saturday Night Camp Snack. This year I found an easy way to add a whole nother level of flavor! Keep reading to see how Hidden Valley® Ranch Salad Dressing and Seasoning Mix really really took this up a notch.
There’s something so much better about foods cooked over a campfire. It’s not just the whole caveman style cooking experience, it’s also the lightly smoked flavor that helps bring your food to life.
Making campfire popcorn is so easy, simply add popcorn kernels with a little butter, ghee or coconut oil into your popper… I use roughly 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels with 1 tablespoon of fat.
Then add the heat, keeping the popcorn moving so that they don’t burn.
Using the popcorn popper on an over the fire grill makes it so much easier, simply slide the popper back and forth….
Before you know it, all those popcorn kernels are magically popped!
Give your popcorn a drizzle of melted butter or ghee.
Much like we choose to indulge on popcorn while camping (since we don’t eat TONS of carbs and grains at home), I also couldn’t resist using Hidden Valley® Ranch Salad Dressing and Seasoning Mix!
No more little packets when Sam’s Club has it available in a convenient (and super affordable) sprinkle bottle; you can find it in the aisle with the herbs and spices.
Expand your menu with endless combinations of appetizers, entrées, and side dishes made with the delicious taste of Hidden Valley – The Original Ranch Dressing and Seasoning Mix.
Sprinkle as much or as little as you want. How will you know when it’s enough?? Taste it as you mix!
And I recommend making MORE than you think you’ll eat. I love having leftover popcorn with breakfast too!
Storing your popcorn and keeping it fresh has never been easier with Glad® Press ‘n Seal®, cause stale popcorn is gross… but you can’t take EVERYTHING with you when you go camping.
Glad® Press ‘n Seal® is honestly one of the handiest things to take along camping—you can use it to cover up meats while they are marinating, preserve leftovers and even use it as a lid for a cup to keep the bugs out of your wine!
With a quick press of a finger, Glad® Press ‘n Seal® Food Wrap keeps food fresh with a leak proof, air tight seal with Griptex technology that allows it to adhere to plastic, paper, wood, metal and glass, keeping food fresh!
And if you (like Ray and I tend to) get a little carried away eating right out of the popcorn bowl, serve up little bowls then put the rest away.
You can find the Glad Press and Seal in a pack of 2 at Sam’s Club—one for home and one for camp, so you’re never without.
