Oven Baked BBQ Pork Chops

What I love about these easy oven bbq pork chops recipe, like this one is how easy and delicious they are. And with my ‘from scratch” version you can control the ingredients instead of relying on a bottled BBQ sauce for easy recipes like this!.

I recently asked my MIL where this recipe originally came from and she wasn’t exactly sure… maybe Aunt Angie?? I guess it really doesn’t matter but what we are 100% sure of, is that this easy weeknight dinners recipe has been a family favorite for at least 30 years!

My hubby, Ray, remembers eating it long before we met, these Easy Oven Baked BBQ Pork Chops Recipes were made by both his mom and his grandmother. And admittedly I’ve loved this recipe since my first taste… is love at first taste a thing?!?!

In fact, I was so INSPIRED by these Baked BBQ Pork Chops Recipes (which includes my favorite barbecue sauce) that I used the easy sauce to make my famous 3-ingredient Homemade BBQ sauce and Homemade Keto BBQ Sauce Recipes! (both recipes with pantry ingredients you already have!!)

How To make Oven Baked BBQ Pork Chops

Again, this barbecue bork chops recipe isn’t calling for bottled BBQ sauce, instead it relies on just 3 ingredients you already have as pantry staples to make your new favorite bbq sauce mix!

  1. Ketchup
  2. Brown Sugar
  3. Lemon Juice (or Apple Cider Vinegar)

And of course you’re going to need Pork Chops too, I’ve made this with both bone in pork chops and boneless pork chops. You do you, boo. This recipe is very adaptable to be bone-in bbq pork chops in oven or even boneless bbq pork chops in oven but it’s always the best tender oven baked bbq pork chops you’ll ever eat!

Optional, but suggested ingredients:

To get started you’re going to need a baking pan with sides. I use a 9×13 glass baking dish for up to 6 pork chops, you can use a baking sheet with sides if you want to make more at once for a lot of people (or leftovers for easy meal during a busy week). Alternatively if you are only making 2-3 pork chops you can even make this delicious recipe in a cast iron skillet, too!

Season your pork chops on both sides. I recommend my Homemade Seasoned Salt or my BBQ Spice Dry Rub Recipe. You can also use basic salt and pepper, bbq rub, barbecue seasoning or simple rub mix that you like. Place pork chops in a single layer (or with very minor overlap, as photoed) and top each with 1-2 slices of sweet onion.

To make the sauce mixture by combing ketchup, lemon juice (or apple cider vinegar) and brown sugar.. then pour the good bbq sauce over the top of pork chops.

While I haven’t tried this modification yet, next time I’m going to add a slice of green bell peppers to each pork chop along with the onion. You might even want to add a few drops of liquid smoke to the tangy bbq sauce for a smoky flavor (like you might expect from a charcoal grill) like I do in my homemade BBQ sauce recipe and a pinch of cayenne pepper for some spice!

Oven Baked BBQ Pork Chops

Since pork chops come in a variety of sizes and shapes that can be used in this recipe; thick cut pork chops, pork loin chops, etc.. How long do you cook BBQ pork chops in oven? to be honest the baking time can vary in order to ensure that you have juicy pork chops that are also tender chops.

You will notice that the sauce ingredients along with the pork juices are what make this a wonderful recipe, see all that deliciousness in the pan?!?!?!

Oven Baked BBQ Pork Chops

Should you cover pork chops when baking in the oven? I suggest Baking your oven bbq pork chops at 400F for roughly 45 minutes (uncovered) for thin boneless chops. Increasing the time until your pork is falling apart, depending on the thickness of your pork chops.

Nobody likes a tough and chewy pork chop recipe!! You don’t need a meat thermometer or check an internal temperature, fork tender pork chops are always cooked through and no longer pink!
